Health Department and County Commissioners Conducting Rocky Fork Lake Dumpster Days for Highland County Residents

The Highland County Health Department and Highland County Commissioners will be providing another community dumpster at Rocky Fork Lake August 31st (9am-4pm) and September 1st (12pm-6pm). The Rocky Fork Lake Community Dumpster Days will be held at the same location as the last event. The event will be held at 6744 Inverness Ct. Hillsboro, Ohio 45133.  

               Courtney Hall, an environmental specialist at the Health Department, states “The last event was a huge success! We were able to fill the entire dumpster during the first day of the event. We are very excited to be able to provide the community with this opportunity again!”.  

               Jared Warner, the Highland County Health Commissioner, reports “We received a lot of interest regarding a second RFL Dumpster Days event and with the help of the Highland County Commissioners we were able to make it happen. We are hoping these events will help us enhance the natural beauty of Highland County by cleaning up some of the excess garbage and debris that is in our communities.” 

               This special event will be acting on a first come, first serve basis. When the dumpster becomes full, the event will end even if it is before 6pm on September 1st.  The following items will not be accepted at this event: concrete, rocks, bricks, batteries, auto parts, tires, drums, liquids, chemicals, appliances, electronics, hazardous waste or asbestos.

Job Opening: Registered Environmental Health Specialist in Training / Registered Environmental Health Specialist

Highland County Health Department

 

Position Description: The Highland County Health Department is accepting

applications for a Registered Environmental Health Specialist in Training / Registered Environmental Health Specialist.  Applicant must have a current certificate of registration as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) or Registered Environmental Health Specialist In Training (REHSIT) issued by the Ohio State Board of Sanitarian Registration OR ability to obtain SIT status immediately after hire.  REHSIT status requires 30 semester credit hours in science coursework during the completion of a Bachelor’s Degree. REHS status must be obtained within 3 years. 

 

Pay Range:

REHSIT - $17.00 to $22.00 hourly, pay is commensurate with education and experience. 

REHS – $22.00 to $28.00 hourly, pay is commensurate with education and experience. 

 

Hours: Full-time, Non-exempt (38 hours per week /76 hours per pay)

Job Duties:

 

The Health Department is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic person to work in our Environmental Health Division.  This position will work under the supervision of the Environmental Health Director, and will work to support the various environmental health programs in place at the health department.  Job duties will include:

 

Inspect food facilities for safe practices and operation

Inspect household sewage systems for proper operation and maintenance

Investigate public health nuisances

Generate and submit reports and inspection documents using a computer, digital camera, and other tools

Support other environmental health division programs as needed

Perform other duties as assigned

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

·      Eligible for REHSIT / REHS status in Ohio – Completed a 4-year degree with at least 45 quarter units or 30 semester units of science courses

·      Be able to lift 75 lbs.

·      Must have a valid Ohio driver’s license, vehicle insurance, and reliable daily transportation

·      Willing to work outdoors in various weather conditions

·      Possess excellent computer and technology skills

 

Applicants will be selected for interviews based on qualifications.  Successful applicants, upon a conditional job offer, must complete a criminal background check and driving record check.

Rocky Fork Lake Community Dumpster Days

Health Department Conducting Rocky Fork Lake Dumpster Days for Highland County Residents

The Highland County Health Department and the Highland County Commissioners are providing a community dumpster at Rocky Fork Lake July 12th-14th. Courtney Hall, an environmental specialist at the Health Department, reports “there has been a large increase in nuisance complaints, specifically regarding areas with excessive garbage and we are wanting to do our part to help clean our community as a whole. We have high hopes that this event will provide an easier route for individuals to dispose of their trash and other items.”

                The dumpster will be placed at 6744 Inverness Ct. Hillsboro, Ohio 45133 and the event will be July 12th, 13th and 14th. The hours for July 12th and 13th are 9am-4pm. The hours for July 14th are 12pm-6pm. According to Courtney Hall, “The Health Department tried to vary the hours of operations throughout the event to attempt to provide individuals with different schedules the opportunity to participate as well”.

                The Health Department has distributed flyers and posters through the Rocky Fork Lake area and on social media. Hannah Guilkey-Humphrey, Special Projects Coordinator at the Health Department, mentions “we are really attempting to get the surrounding community to come together and drastically improve the appearance of our beautiful county! We want everyone, who is willing and able, to have the opportunity to participate in this wonderful event.”.
