Frequently Asked Questions

  • The Highland County Health Department can bill most private insurances, Medicaid, and Medicare for services. For a complete list of accepted insurances, please click here.

  • Children (Birth to 18 years old): The Highland County Health Department provides immunizations to all children, regardless of ability to pay. We participate in the VFC Program, offering immunizations at no or reduced cost ($21 for first, $11 for each additional). Sliding scale available if needed.

    Adults (19 years and older): The Highland County Health Department also offers reduced-cost or no-cost immunizations through the 317 Program. Prices: $21 for the first, $11 for each additional. Sliding scale available if needed.

  • Please bring the following items to your appointment:

    • Identification card

    • Insurance card

    • Immunization record

  • Individuals with minor illnesses are still able to receive their immunizations. However, if the patient has a fever or an illness that is contagious please call and reschedule your appointment.

  • The Ohio Department of Health manages the Ohio Impact Statewide Immunization Information System (ImpactSIIS), an online database where healthcare providers can record immunizations given in Ohio.

    If you need a copy of your immunization records from the state system, please be aware that these records are protected by medical confidentiality laws. Additionally, not all providers participate in the system, so other options may be available for accessing your records.

Available COVID-19 Immunizations

The CDC recommends that everyone aged 6 months and older receive at least one dose of an updated COVID-19 vaccine. Please note that COVID-19 vaccine recommendations will be updated as needed. For the most up-to-date information, visit the CDC's Staying Up to Date with COVID-19 Vaccines page.

  • Children aged 6 months–4 years: May need multiple doses to be up to date, including at least one dose of an updated COVID-19 vaccine.

  • Everyone aged 5 years and older: Should get one dose of an updated COVID-19 vaccine to protect against serious illness from COVID-19.

  • Moderately or severely immunocompromised individuals: May receive additional doses of the updated COVID-19 vaccine.

  • People aged 65 years and older: Should receive an additional dose of an updated COVID-19 vaccine at least 4 months after their previous dose if they’ve already received one dose of any updated COVID-19 vaccine (Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, or Novavax).

    **HCHD only carries Moderna COVID-19 vaccines at this time.

**Plan to get your immunizations well before you travel. Some immunizations require more than one dose, so it might take time to finish them all. You should see your doctor or healthcare provider at least one to six months before your trip to discuss immunizations.
