Highland County Health Department
Position Description: Under general direction of the Highland County Board of Health, the Medical Director provides medical direction for all health professionals working in Highland County Health Department (HCHD) clinics; provides medical consultation in regards to clinical services provided by HCHD; orders appropriate lab work, prescribing treatment or therapies and other services as can be performed only by a physician; reviews medical cases, etc.; reviews, develops, and implements medical and clinical policies, procedures, and protocols; provides training to employees. Medical Director will communicate with the Board of Health and advise the Board on medical policy; attends other civic and community meetings related to public health matters at the request of the health commissioner; and attends conferences and seminars as required. This position is a part-time, contracted position within the department.
Qualifications
Must be certified to practice medicine (MD or DO from an accredited institution) as issued by State Medical Board pursuant to O.R.C. Section 4731.14 and hold a current certificate of registration issued by the State Medical Board pursuant to O.R.C Section 4731.281.
Knowledge of public health principles, epidemiology, and healthcare delivery systems
Ability to use medical equipment, modern office equipment; proficiency in computer operation and use of email.
Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills, including the ability to speak and present information in public settings.
Maintain a valid Ohio Driver’s License
Responsibilities
Serve as a medical advisor to Health Department leadership and medical staff.
Maintains 24/7 availability and access, unless otherwise arranged with Health Commissioner
Develop/maintain standing orders to direct nursing division operations
Provide guidance on medical issues as needed
Support PHAB operations as needed
May include some weekends, holidays, and evenings outside the normal work day.
May be required to play an active role during a public health emergency, crisis, outbreak, incident or event in which the Health Commissioner deems additional changes in responsibilities and working locations / hours.
Meet virtually or in person at least quarterly with HCHD staff.
Attend annual medical director statewide conference.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Work Environment
Office environment with occasional travel. Must be able to sit or stand long periods of time. Must be able to type for long periods of time. Must be able to lift 25 lbs. May require occasional emergency response related work. Driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
